Nakhon Nayok Province

Nakhon Nayok is one of the central provinces of Thailand, established by the Act Establishing Changwat Samut Prakan, Changwat Nonthaburi, Changwat Samut Sakhon and Changwat Nakhon Nayok, Buddhist Era 2489 (1946), which came into force as from March 9, 1946.
Neighboring provinces are (from north clockwise) Saraburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao and Pathum Thani.
Nakhon Nayok is renowned for its refreshing waterfalls and abundant varieties of fruits.

History

The city of Nakhon Nayok dates back to the Dvaravati kingdom, probably founded in the 11th century. Ruins from this time are visible at Mueang Boran Dong Lakhon south of the modern city. Originally named MueangLablae, the name Nakhon Nayok was assigned to it in 1350, when it became a garrison town of the Ayutthaya kingdom protecting the eastern boundary.
January 1, 1943 the government downgraded Nakhon Nayok Province and combined it with Prachinburi Province, except Ban Na district which became part of Saraburi Province. On May 9, 1946 the province was re-established.

Wat Phra Kaew

The Wat Phra Kaew , English: Temple of the Emerald Buddha; full official name Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple (wat) in Thailand. It is a "potent religio-political symbol and thepalladium [safeguard] of Thai society".It is located in the historic centre of Bangkok (district Phra Nakhon), within the precincts of theGrand Palace.
The main building is the central ubosoth, which houses the statue of Emerald Buddha. The legendary history of this Buddha image is traced to India, five centuries after the Lord Buddha attained Nirvana, till it was finally enshrined in Bangkok at the Wat Phra Kaew temple in 1782 during Rama I's reign (1782–1809). This marked the beginning and raise of the Chakri Dynasty of the present Kingdom of Thailand (the present head of the dynasty is King Rama IX.) The Emerald Buddha, a dark green statue, is in a standing form, about 66 centimetres (26 in) tall, carved from a single jade stone (Emerald in Thai means deep green colour and not the specific stone). It is carved in the meditating posture in the style of the Lanna school of the northern Thailand. Except for the Thai King, no other person is allowed to touch the statue. The King changes the cloak around the statue three times a year, corresponding to the summer, winter, and rainy seasons, an important ritual performed to usher good fortune to the country during each season.
While legend traces this statue to India, its rich historical records dates its finding in Cambodia in the 15th century, moved to Laos in the 16th century and then to Vientiane where it remained for 215 years, and finally to Thailand in the 18th century. Considering the long history and Nagasena's (a Brahmin who became a Buddhist sage and lived about 150 BC) prophesy that the Emerald Buddha would bring "prosperity and pre-eminence to each country in which it resides", the Emerald Buddha deified in the Wat Phra Kaew is deeply revered and venerated in Thailand as the protector of the country.

Wongwian Yai

Wongwian Yai, is a large roundabout (traffic circle) in Thon Buri, western bank of the Chao Phraya River in BangkokThailand, where the Statue of King Taksin is situated. It is located in the district of Thon Buri and Khlong San in the centre of Bangkok, at the intersection of Prajadhipok/Inthara Phithak/Lat Ya/Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Roads. Nearby there is Wongwian Yai Station, historical commuter railway terminal to Mahachai (local name of Samut Sakon provincial city) and Mae Khlong (Samut Songkhram) in south-western suburb of Bangkok.

History

The Circle was built following the Memorial Bridge (Phra Phutta Yodfa Bridge) opening on April 6, 1932, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Chakri Dynasty and Bangkok City. The Bridge from old Bangkok conducted 11 new road projects to be built on Thon Buri side of the Chao Phraya River, also with the Circle. Wongwian Yai, 'Big Circle' in thai was named as there was another smaller circle with clock tower next to the Memorial Bridge called Wongwian Lek, 'Small Circle'. The name became proper as no other circles in Thailand had been called Big or Small Circle officially. The Statue of King Taksin, however, was built 21 years later.

Statue of King Taksin

For memorial to Taksin the Great, one of the great Thai kings who liberated the country after Ayutthaya was taken by the Burmese in 1767, the statue was built here in 1953, in Thon Buri side which the king had established as the new capital in 1768. The statue was executed by the Italian sculptor Corrado Feroci, who worked under the Thai name Silpa Bhirasi. A state ceremony on a day of homage to the king, December 28, has been held annually since 1954.

Dusit Zoo

Dusit Zoo  at Khao Din Park is a city zoo in Bangkok, Thailand. Located at Khao Din Park in Bangkok's Dusit District next to the Parliament House and Dusit Palace, it is the oldest zoo of Thailand, built by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as his private garden adjacent to the royal palace. After the king's death, the garden was left unattended for years.
In 1938, the revolutionary government asked King Rama VIII's regency to give this park to Bangkok City Municipality to be open as a public zoo. The King donated deer and a number of other animals from the palace for public exhibition. The City of Bangkok operated the zoo until 1954. Since then it has been transferred to the state Zoological Park Organization, which also operates Khao Khiao Open Zoo, Chiang Mai Zoo, Songkhla Zoo andNakhon Ratchasima Zoo.Dusit Zoo or "Khao Din", spans a total area of 188, 800 square meters, and is regarded as the most popular zoo in Thailand, attracting approximately 2.5 million visitors annually.

Zoo Highlights

Dusit Zoo is home to a wide variety of exotic animals, ranging from monkeys, alligators, kangaroos, and zebras, to penguins, elephants, camels, and giraffes. The Albino barking deer and white Bengal tiger are also rare highlights at the zoo. Play Land offers many rides and amusement facilities to entertain children throughout the day, while boat peddling and the sightseeing train provide different modes of exploration. Dusit Zoo also contains an animal hospital, zoo museum, and educational centre.

Teachers' Day

In many countries, Teachers' Days are intended to be special days for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general. The date on which Teachers' day is celebrated varies from country to country. Teachers' days are distinct from World Teachers' Day which is officially celebrated across the world on October 5.

History

The idea of celebrating Teachers' Day took ground independently in many countries during the 20th century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education (for example, Argentina commemorates Domingo Faustino Sarmiento's death on September 11 since 1915, while India celebrates Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday on September 5 since 1962). This is the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days.

By country Thailand

Date of Teachers' Day
January 16
Adopted as Teachers' Day in Thailand by a resolution of the government on November 21, 1956. The first Teachers' Day was held in 1957. January 16 marks the enactment of the Teachers Act, Buddhist Era 2488 (1945), which was published in the Government Gazette on January 16, 1945, and came into force 60 days later. Most Thai schools close for the day to give their teachers a break during the long second term. Many international schools do not, although they may hold celebrations to honor their teaching staff. There are very few public or official commemorations.

The Songkran festival

The Songkran festival  is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South andSoutheast Asia.

The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed. If these days fall on a weekend, the missed days off are taken on the weekdays immediately following. Songkran falls in the hottest time of the year in Thailand, at the end of the dry season. Until 1888 the Thai New Year was the beginning of the year in Thailand; thereafter 1 April was used until 1940. 1 January is now the beginning of the year. The traditional Thai New Year has been a national holiday since then.
New Year (Songkran) Celebrations in Pattaya (2013)
Songkran has traditionally been celebrated as the New Year for many centuries, and is believed to have been adapted from an Indian festival. It is now observed nationwide, even in the far south. However, the most famous Songkran celebrations are still in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where it continues for six days and even longer. It has also become a party for foreigners and an additional reason for many to visit Thailand for immersion in another culture.

History Phra Pradaeng

Phra Pradaeng

Phra Pradaeng is a district  of Samut Prakan Province in Thailand.

History

Phra Pradeang was the original center of the area south of Bangkok near the mouth of the Chao Phraya river. Originally named Nakhon Khuan Khan it was settled by Mon. In 1815, King Rama II built the Pom Phlaeng Faifa fort at the river bend. The fort is now located in a small park and accessible for visitors.
In 1819 the new town Samut Prakan (or Paknam) was established. Due to the economic problems in the early 1930s several administrative entities were abolished, including Phra Phradaeng province which had its districts were assigned to Samut Prakan and Thonburi effective April 1, 1932.
A 2 km tramway across the neck of the huge Phra Pradaeng river bend opened in 1908 and closed c.1940. Operated by a private company, the motorised trams connected with motorboat services to Bangkok and to Paknam at each end of the line. The tram cut a considerable time off the up and downriver journey by avoiding the long river bend.

Royal Activity : King Of Thailand

The Bhumibol Bridge , also known as the Industrial Ring Road Bridge  is part of the 13 km long Industrial Ring Road connecting southern Bangkok with Samut Prakan Province. The bridge crosses the Chao Phraya River twice, with two strikingcable-stayed spans of lengths of 702 m and 582 m supported by two diamond-shaped pylons 173 m and 164 m high. Where the two spans meet, another road rises to join them at a free-flowing interchange suspended 50 metres above the ground.
The bridge opened for traffic on 20 September 2006, before the official opening date of 5 December 2006. It is part of the Bangkok Industrial Ring Road, a royal scheme initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej that aims to solve traffic problems within Bangkok and surrounding areas, especially the industrial area around Khlong Toei Port, Southern Bangkok and Samut Prakan Province.
According to tradition, all the bridges over the Chao Phraya in Bangkok are named after a member of the Royal Family. In October 2009, it was announced that both bridges would be named after King Bhumibol Adulyadej,[with the northern bridge officially named "Bhumibol 1 Bridge" and the southern bridge "Bhumibol 2 Bridge". The unofficial name "Mega Bridge" was also widely used.
The bridge was featured on Discovery Channel.
